Nissan's All-New Entry-Level EV Z9 Wave Spotted in First Spy Photos

Nissan is accelerating its electrification transition, and a new entry-level battery electric vehicle (BEV) codenamed "Wave" has been spotted undergoing road testing by overseas media for the first time. The model is expected to officially launch in the first half of 2027, positioned below the current Micra EV — and will serve as Nissan's key response to aggressive pricing from Chinese brands in the European market.

According to Spanish automotive outlet Motor.es, preliminary public-road testing has already been completed. Though heavily camouflaged, the vehicle's front-end design — including Nissan's signature grille and lighting signature — remains clearly recognizable and closely aligned with the current Micra. Meanwhile, NEWCAR reports the model is tentatively named "Wave" and will be built on the AmpR Small BEV platform shared with the Renault Twingo.

Powertrain details suggest a single motor delivering up to 60 kW (82 hp), paired with a 27.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. Its WLTP-rated all-electric range is projected at 263 km (~163 miles). Production will take place at the Renault Group's Novo Mesto plant in Slovakia — continuing the Nissan–Renault alliance's collaborative manufacturing strategy.

Pricing is expected to start below €20,000 (approximately $23,200), excluding local subsidies or incentive programs. Key competitors include the BYD Seagull, Wuling Bingo Surf, and other value-focused entry-level BEVs from Chinese brands. As of now, Nissan has issued no official statement regarding this vehicle; all specifications and timelines remain unconfirmed industry rumors and media speculation.
