At today's "Core Operational Carbon Neutrality" press conference, CATL officially announced that it has achieved carbon neutrality across its core operations as of the end of 2025. This means all 20 of its global battery manufacturing facilities have obtained ISO 14068-1 Zero-Carbon Factory certification, and 100% of electricity used in core operations comes from zero-carbon sources — making CATL the world's only battery company to reach this milestone at a TWh-scale battery shipment volume.
According to disclosed data, CATL's battery output reached 748 GWh in 2025. Between 2022 and 2025, its lithium-ion battery sales grew 2.3-fold, maintaining its position as the global market leader. To support large-scale green manufacturing, the company independently developed the "CATL Carbon Chain" management tool in 2022 — covering nearly 40 production processes and upstream materials — and built over 1,000 product- and raw-material-specific carbon models.
Key performance metrics show: since 2023, CATL has consumed over 18 billion kWh of zero-carbon electricity; energy consumption per unit of production at its manufacturing bases dropped 28% compared to 2022; carbon emission intensity fell approximately 77% within two years; and cumulative carbon reduction exceeded 10 million metric tons of CO₂-equivalent.
CATL Chairman and CEO Robin Zeng stated: "Net-zero is not just a mission — it's a hard capability forged through practice, and an enormous growth opportunity." As early as 2023, CATL first proposed its two-phase goal: "core operational carbon neutrality by 2025, full-value-chain carbon neutrality by 2035."
The challenge now shifts to the value chain — currently, over 80% of CATL's products' lifecycle emissions originate from its supply chain, with total supply chain emissions more than five times those of its core operations. To address this, CATL has launched the lithium battery industry's first full-chain carbon data traceability platform globally. It has completed carbon data accounting for over 100 key Tier-1 suppliers and will release its *Green Procurement Guidelines*, incorporating carbon footprint, renewable energy usage ratio, and energy consumption per unit into supplier qualification and audit criteria.
Huang Bin, Head of CATL's Procurement Center, announced the launch of the "Zero-Carbon Supply Chain Enablement Program," initiating deep collaborative decarbonization efforts with 30 core suppliers; it also proposes establishing a "Global Lithium Battery Industry Zero-Carbon Ecosystem Collaboration Platform" to jointly develop standards and share technologies.
This strategic acceleration is also driven by external regulatory pressures. The EU's *Battery and Waste Battery Regulation* will be implemented in phased mandatory carbon footprint limits between 2027 and 2028 — covering raw material extraction, production, transportation, and recycling — and require verifiable full-lifecycle data. China's MIIT also announced last year that, starting in 2026, pilot requirements will mandate new-energy vehicle battery manufacturers to disclose product carbon footprints. CATL Assistant Chairman Xiangfeng Meng noted: "Regulatory compliance is the baseline for overseas expansion — but as an industry leader, we must actively participate in global carbon standard research and development."
