MAEXTRO S800 Grand Design Collector's Edition Unveiled, Starting at ¥138,800

China's new RMB 1-million luxury sedan takes another leap: same price for extended-range and BEV versions, bespoke specs rivaling Maybach

On June 25, at the HarmonyOS Senova Zhixing Gala, the MAEXTRO S800 Grand Design Collector's Edition was officially unveiled. Positioned as the brand's flagship ultra-customized four-seater, both its extended-range and battery-electric variants launch at a unified starting price of ¥138,800, accompanied by a ¥200,000 customizable option package — further raising the ceiling for domestically produced sedans.

According to publicly available data, the standard MAEXTRO S800 has delivered approximately 19,000 units in its first 13 months on the market and has ranked #1 in monthly sales among luxury sedans priced above ¥700,000 for nine consecutive months. During the same period, sales of the Mercedes Benz S Class and BMW 7 Series each fell short of half that figure. This indicates strong acceptance among high-net-worth users regarding both product capability and brand value.

The Collector's Edition delivers comprehensive upgrades in design and specification: exclusive two-tone paint, a 4.5-meter hand-applied gold-leaf side stripe; interior trim featuring finely woven wood veneers and bespoke leather; and standard 800V high-voltage architecture, advanced L3-level intelligent driving system, and satellite-based secure communications. The manufacturer states its hardware specifications "meet or exceed" those of top-tier Maybach and BMW 7 Series models at comparable price points.

However, market reaction to its pricing strategy remains divided. Some users note: "A century of luxury heritage can't be replicated overnight — brand recognition remains a hard barrier in business contexts." Others — particularly entrepreneurs with industrial backgrounds — hold a different view: New-generation business leaders prioritize technological self-reliance, Chinese aesthetic expression, and intelligent user experience, viewing traditional RMB 1-million ICE flagships as lagging in infotainment responsiveness, chassis tuning, and energy efficiency.

Industry analysts suggest MAEXTRO's move is not merely a price hike, but a structural push into the ultra-luxury segment — leveraging the proven user base and market reputation of the standard model. Yet brand equity within elite circles still requires time to mature, and the Collector's Edition's niche positioning means it won't achieve mass-volume sales. Whether it truly wins over the RMB 1-million buyer segment hinges on real-world deliveries and long-term reputation.
