EVgo and General Motors Launch 350 kW Flagship Fast-Charging Station in Detroit

EVgo and General Motors recently launched a new flagship DC fast-charging station at the Meijer supermarket parking lot in Warren, Michigan. Located adjacent to GM's Global Technical Center, the station features 12 high-power 350 kW charging stalls compatible with both CCS and NACS connectors — and introduces, for the first time at scale across a public fast-charging network, a 'drive-in, drive-out' layout specifically designed for electric vehicles towing RVs or trailers.

According to EVgo, the station's 350 kW peak output can theoretically recharge compatible vehicles to full capacity in approximately 15 minutes. Actual charging speed, however, remains subject to multiple variables — including vehicle model, battery health, ambient temperature, and starting state of charge (SOC). A canopy shades the station, and its wide drive-in, drive-out lanes allow users to plug in and charge without detaching their trailers — a rare capability across U.S. public charging networks, yet one that significantly enhances practicality for long-distance travel.

The opening of the Warren station marks a milestone: EVgo's nationwide flagship fast-charging network now has more than 40 high-power charging stalls in active operation. EVgo stated it expects to operate over 100 flagship stations by the end of 2026, spanning California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, and Texas.

Unlike standard fast-charging stations, EVgo's flagship locations average around 20 charging stalls and are strategically sited near high-frequency lifestyle destinations — such as supermarkets, restaurants, and fresh-food markets. Beyond higher power and greater scale, these sites also feature enhanced nighttime lighting, optimized traffic flow design, and improved human-machine interaction — all aimed at lowering user operational barriers and reducing wait times.

EVgo Dennis Kish stated: "As American consumers continue evaluating the shift to electric mobility, the driver's charging experience is critical. Through our collaboration with General Motors, we're seamlessly integrating charging infrastructure into users' everyday routines."

The two companies first announced their flagship fast-charging partnership in 2024, targeting the deployment of 400 high-power charging stalls across major metropolitan areas. To date, supported by GM, EVgo has built nearly 2,400 public charging ports across 32 U.S. states. Separately, EVgo, GM, and Pilot Company have jointly deployed over 1,300 fast chargers across 300 Pilot and Flying J truck stops in 40 states.

The new station opens amid accelerating EV adoption in Michigan. Citing Experian vehicle registration data, EVgo notes that the state's in-use EV fleet grew sixfold between 2021 and 2025 — underscoring mounting demand for infrastructure expansion.
