New York — After years of absence in the premium mid-to-large SUV segment, Audi has launched its largest vehicle to date: the 2027 Q9. Measuring 5,309 mm long, 2,022 mm wide, 1,824 mm tall, with a 3,137 mm wheelbase, this seven-seat (or optional six-seat) full-size crossover is officially positioned by Audi as a strategic product designed to 'fill the final 'megabeast' gap in the U.S. market.'

Notably, the Q9 marks Audi's first-ever 'U.S.-first' launch — built at Audi's Slovakia plant but prioritized for the U.S. market before rolling out to Europe and China. Marco Schubert, Audi's Global Sales Director, emphasized: 'The U.S. remains Q9's largest single market, accounting for 65% of global production capacity.' Deliveries are expected to begin in the U.S. in Q4 2027.
Pricing starts at $89,095 (including freight) for the base model, while the high-performance SQ9 starts at $119,395. Though Audi has not disclosed specific sales targets, senior executives acknowledge the Q9 is pivotal to reversing recent declines: In H1 2026, Audi's global deliveries fell 7% year-on-year to 727,245 units, with notable pressure in both the U.S. and Chinese markets; U.S. deliveries totaled 67,916 units — down 17% versus H1 2025.
Barry Hoch, Audi's Senior Director of U.S. Product Planning, revealed that the U.S. team played a deep role in Q9 development — from mandating dual powertrain availability and five-zone independent climate control, to retaining conventional door handles, enlarging the center console bin, and adding dual wireless charging pads plus a 30-ounce cup holder, all based on local user research. 'No one ever complains about too much storage or too many cup holders,' he stated bluntly. Stylistically, the Q9 deliberately avoids excessive flamboyance, striking a balance between benchmarking rivals like Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7, Lexus LX, and Land RoverRange Rover while preserving Audi's signature restrained aesthetic.
Industry analyst firm AutoPacific notes the Q9 is more than just a dimensional upgrade — it's Audi's precise response to American family mobility needs: Even with third-row seats upright, it offers 19.3 cubic feet (≈547 liters) of cargo volume, accommodating Golf golf gear, ski equipment, and daily hauls for three kids and a pet. 'It's both a natural extension of the lineup and a critical vote of confidence in the U.S. market,' the firm concluded.
