BMW M2 Equipped with Track Package Sets New Nürburgring Compact-Class Lap Record

Recently, BMW officially announced that a standard-spec BMW M2 fitted with the M Performance Track Package set a new lap record for compact cars on the Nürburgring Nordschleife — completing a lap in 7 minutes 25.068 seconds. This time beats the previous record of 7:25.534 set by the BMW M2 CS in 2025 by 0.466 seconds, officially claiming the fastest Nürburgring lap time ever achieved by a production compact car.

Notably, the record-setting car was not the more powerful and extensively lightweighted M2 CS, but rather a standard M2 upgraded with the dedicated Track Package. BMW emphasized that track conditions during the run were exceptionally demanding: both ambient and track surface temperatures were unusually high, and oil residue remained on Turn 13 (T13). The automaker stated that, under more ideal track conditions, the vehicle's lap time still has room for improvement.

The powertrain remains stock, featuring the S58 3.0L twin-turbocharged inline-six engine, delivering a maximum output of 480 hp and peak torque of 600 N·m, with a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 4 seconds. By comparison, the M2 CS produces 530 hp and 650 N·m, accelerating from 0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

The M Performance Track Package will launch this month in the German market at a price of €23,500 (approximately RMB 183,000). The package includes a carbon-fiber ducktail rear spoiler, front splitter, adjustable support bearings, airflow deflectors, and four-way rebound/compression-adjustable coilover suspension; installation lowers ride height by up to 20 mm, significantly enhancing aerodynamics and cornering responsiveness.

In addition, the BMW M2 xDrive all-wheel-drive variant is expected to launch in late summer 2026. The model has not yet been confirmed for introduction or pricing in the Chinese market, and whether it will be launched domestically remains subject to further official announcements.
