Base Power Launches 39.2 kWh Home Battery Core, Secures $1 Billion Series D Funding

U.S.-First 'Plug-and-Play' Residential Energy Storage System Supporting Virtual Power Plant Operations and Extreme-Environment Performance

U.S. energy technology company Base Power has officially launched its new residential energy storage system — Base Core — a large-format lithium iron phosphate (LFP) home battery with a nominal capacity of 39.2 kWh. According to official information, the system can provide up to 36 hours of continuous power for a typical home during outages, and supports dual-unit parallel operation to deliver a total capacity of 78.4 kWh and up to 72 hours of backup runtime (when paired with energy-saving usage modes).

Base Core is positioned as a 'dual-mode intelligent energy storage terminal': first, it delivers fully automatic, whole-home backup power with seamless switching in under 50 milliseconds; second, during normal grid operation, it integrates into Base's proprietary virtual power plant (VPP) network to participate in load balancing and ancillary grid services. The company emphasizes that Core's single-unit capacity is approximately three times that of current mainstream residential batteries, and features built-in direct solar input ports and portable generator charging interfaces — enabling flexible recharging across diverse scenarios.

The system incorporates IP67-rated battery modules, operating reliably across an exceptionally wide temperature range of −22°F to 122°F (approximately −30°C to 50°C), and has passed extreme-environment reliability tests — including high-pressure water jet exposure and short-term submersion at 3 feet (~0.9 meters). Zach Dell, CEO and Co-HYCANounder of Base, stated: 'We assembled world-class hardware and software engineers to build Core — it installs in under one hour, switches without user awareness, withstands extreme weather, and is priced within real reach for American households.'

Notably, Base adopts a 'Battery-as-a-Service' (BaaS) model: customers do not purchase the hardware outright but instead subscribe to Base's membership plan — paying a one-time installation fee (e.g., $695 in Oncor's Texas service area) and a monthly membership fee starting at $19, bundled with a fixed-rate electricity plan. Base retains ownership of the battery and reinvests revenue generated from selling aggregated distributed storage capacity back to the grid — reducing end-user costs.

Base Core is now in production at Base's own Austin-based facility, Base Factory 1, with a monthly output capacity reaching several thousand units. Deployment is handled exclusively by Base's in-house installation teams. As of mid-2026, Base has deployed over 500 MWh of residential storage capacity, expanded operations from Texas into Illinois, and partnered with utilities including El Paso Electric, Austin Energy, and CoServ to launch over 200 MW of VPP projects.

This round represents a $1 billion Series D financing, valuing the company at $13 billion post-money. Ribbit, Addition, Valor Equity Partners, and MorganMAXUS Strategic Investment Group co-led the round, with participation from both new and existing investors. To date, Base has raised over $2.5 billion in cumulative funding. Proceeds will accelerate nationwide rollout of Core, expand domestic manufacturing and deployment capacity, and grow engineering and operations teams.

Base Core is currently available for residential customers in select regions of Texas and Illinois.
