The current domestically produced BMW i3 will officially cease production in August 2026. Launched at BMW’s Li Da Plant in Shenyang in 2022, it was BMW’s first locally built all-electric sedan in China and targets the premium electric sedan segment priced around ¥300,000.
At the April 2026 Beijing Auto Show, BMW globally debuted the next-generation long-wheelbase i3—featuring a wheelbase exceeding 3 meters, specially extended and optimized for Chinese customers. It retains the next-gen architecture’s 800V high-voltage platform, cylindrical-cell battery, and hardware redundancy for L3-level autonomous driving.
The domestically produced long-wheelbase next-gen i3 is confirmed for market launch and customer deliveries in 2027, manufactured by BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA). Positioned above the current model, it is expected to fill the product gap between the i4 and i5.
