XPeng Motors was founded in 2015 by He Xiaopeng, co-founder of UCWeb and former president of Alibaba's mobile division. Other co-founders include Xia Heng and He Tao, both Tsinghua University graduates with experience in EV control systems at GAC. XPeng's leadership team spans tech, automotive, and finance, with members from Mercedes-Benz, GAC, Alibaba, Tencent, JPMorgan, Huawei, and Xiaomi. Headquartered in Guangzhou, XPeng has R&D and operations in Beijing, Shanghai, Silicon Valley, San Diego, Zhaoqing, and Zhengzhou. As of June 30, 2020, it had 3,676 employees, 43% in R&D. XPeng believes the next era of mobility lies in smart EVs powered by AI and internet technologies, offering a differentiated product defined by digitalization and electrification.
